Adult creative writing
Every other Friday at 11 a.m., the Carbondale Public Library Creative Writing Club meets, led by Marion Beddoe Lobst of Marywood University. The writing group discusses all facets of writing including memoirs, prose, short stories and novels, just to name a few. The writers in this group share and discuss their own works and offer support and encouragement to one another throughout the writing process. The next meeting April 19. Trinity Episcopal Church, 58 River St, in Carbondale, will hold a roasted pork dinner, Thursday, April 25, noon to 5 p.m. Menu includes: roasted pork, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, stuffing and dessert. State rep moves to
State Rep. Kyle Mullins recently announced he relocated his district to Olyphant. Mullins’ new office, located at 520 Burke Bypass, Suite 1, in Olyphant, will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The new office will replace his former office space, which was located at the Dunmore Community Center.
Archbald curbside pickup
Archbald Borough DPW will begin picking up yard waste curbside in biodegradable bags the week of April 15 on your recycling day and continue every other week.
Grass clippings and leaves are accepted by the borough only if they are in biodegradable bags. Lawn and leaf bags can be purchased at home and garden stores or the borough office for $2 for five bags. No plastic bags are allowed for this service. Vegetation set out in plastic bags will not be picked up. There can be no commingling with any other materials; that is no brush or branches, no garbage animal waste, dirt, construction material or other recyclables.
Branch chipping will begin on April 15 and is done Mondays and Tuesdays only. Please call 570-876-1800 to be put on the list for branch chipping.
Ashes will be picked up Tuesdays during the following weeks on your recycling day: April 15, April 29, May 13, May 27, June 10, June 24, July 8, July 22, August 5, August 19, September 2, September 16, September 30, October 14 and October 28.
Shopa-Davey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6082, 123 Electric St. in Peckville will conduct a pigs-in-the-blanket dinner on Sunday, May 5. Serving from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until sold out. Tickets are $11. Takeouts will be available.
Church bake sale
The Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, 313 First Ave. in Jessup, will hold an Easter bake sale on Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. to 5p.m. Featuring all homemade baked goods including paska bread, kolachi and assorted cookies.
Blessed Sacrament Parish Holy Name Society has partnered with Bakery Delite in Plains to offer paska, paska with raisins, kolach including nut, poppy, cheese, lekvar, apricot and raspberry, dozen Easter cookies boxed, and the society’s own traditional handmade Easter lamb butter. Orders can be made by calling 570-489-4515. Pick up date is Thursday afternoon, April 18, 1-4:45 p.m. in the Parish Hall, 215 Rebecca St., in Throop.
Property tax/rent rebate help
Genevieve Lupini, Jessup Tax Collector will be available to assist any qualifying senior citizen with their 2018 state property tax/rent rebate. The income limit for homeowners is $35,000. Renters’ limit of income is $15. Deadline to file is Sunday, June 30. Call 570-383-1217 for qualifications.

Hricak-McAndrew American Legion Post No. 869, 161 S. Main St. in Archbald will host its annual roast beef dinner and basket raffle on Sunday, April 28, at the post home from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10. Eat in or take out will be available.
