There are no days off for Carbondale Area’s Parker Kerl.
The senior tailback and outside linebacker embraces the daily grind of high school sports unlike anyone else. Football, basketball and track and field blend together like one, long continuous season.
But for Kerl, he wouldn’t have it any other way.
We recently sat down with the Carbondale Area Charger. Here’s what he had to say:
How do you keep your body in shape during the offseason?
I play basketball, run track and lift pretty much year round.
When did you begin playing football?
I’ve been playing football since I was 6 years old.
What’s your relationship like with Coach Larry Gabriel?
Coach Gabriel is a really good coach. I enjoy playing for him.
Who’s your biggest influence?
Biggest influence would have to be my brothers. Definitely my brothers. While growing up, we all played football.
What’s your favorite memory from high school football?
I would have to say when we played Riverside and I hurdled over a kid on their team. It was great.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan on going to college. I’d like to earn a business degree and run my family business, Kerl Ice.
Who’s your favorite athlete?
New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley. I love his worth ethic. His drive is unreal.
How do you prepare for a game?
I put my headphones on and listen to music. I like to stretch as much as possible too. I do different sets of stretches before every game.
