Booster Club

Friends of the Cougar Baseball Booster Club will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Valley View High School Library.

College Graduates

Wilkes University awarded 418 doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degrees to students graduating at the summer commencement ceremony. Among them were: Christopher Kloss of Throop, who earned a Master of Science in education; David Krajewski of Archbald, who earned a Master of Science in education; Debra Smith of Archbald, who earned a Master of Science in education; Mora Hoyle of Jermyn, who earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting; Lauren Terpak of Scott Township, who earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing and Bruce Yankelitis of Dickson City, who earned a Bachelor of Science in environmental engineering.

Community Service Trip

Carbondale Area junior McKinley Borders participated in a community service trip over the summer. Borders visited Vietnam as part of a group called the West Coast Connection. In Hanoi, their service involved visiting a school for the deaf, and painting murals on the walls to make their environment more colorful. In Hoi An, the students learned to do organic rice farming, aiding local farmers in clearing out their irrigation canal systems. In Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City, Borders and her group went to an orphanage for disabled children where they fed and played with the kids, helping with their daycare.
