Rummage sale

Saint Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church will hold its ninth annual fundraiser rummage sale Friday through Sunday, Sept. 20-22, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day at the church’s gym, 133 River St. in Olyphant. Fishing derby

The 27th annual Lackawanna County Fishing Derby at Merli-Sarnoski Park, 286 Sandy Bands Road, Fell Township, will be Saturday, Sept. 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is limited to the first 250 children, ages 4 -12. Harvest festival

Eynon-Archbald Lions Club Harvest Festival Open House will be Sept. 22 at the High School Park Plaza, Church Street, Archbald from 1-4 p.m. There will be food, games, craft making, bounce house, prizes, eye screening, finger printing and more. Music by John Quinn & The Q Balls.

Pierogie sale

St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 600 E. Lackawanna Ave. Olyphant, will hold a deep-fried pierogie sale on Friday, Sept. 27, in the church parking lot on E. Lackawanna Ave. The pierogies are $8 a dozen for fried or plain. The sale will be from 3 p.m. until sold out.

Christmas in September

Festivities for the 10th annual Christmas in September and Classic Car Show will begin Friday, Sept. 27 from 4-8 p.m on the grounds of St. Michael’s Center, 403 Delaware St. in Jermyn. There will be vendors, theme baskets, Christmas desserts, a variety of nut and fruit rolls and an expanded menu of food items available for purchase including the famous potato pancakes. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Faith Ann Liuzzo’s School for the Performing Arts. On Saturday, Sept. 28, the festival will run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Mystic Rulers Duo will be the featured entertainment from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 will be the big day with the classic car show. Rescue palooza and car show

Members of NEPA Cars and Coffee will host The Fast and the Furriest Car Show, Saturday, Sept. 28, 1-4 p.m. at St. John’s Russian Orthodox Cathedral, 700 Hill St., Mayfield. Admission is free. Donations of pet supplies will be accepted.

VFW Auxiliary dinner

VFW Auxiliary Shopa Davey Post 6082, 123 Electric Street Peckville, will host a roast beef dinner Sunday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or sold out. Tickets are $10.

Craft fair

Light the Night Team Mel’s Family will host the annual Fall Craft and Vendor Fair at Genetti Manor, 1505 Main Ave. in Dickson City on Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 100 vendors with Elmo, face painting, food, jewelry, candles, soaps, purses, jams, honey, home decor and more. Free swag bags to the first 75 shoppers. Admission is free to all. Register to donate the gift of life. All proceeds will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Light the Night. 5K run/walk

The PROmoting School – community – university Partnerships to Enhance Resilience (PROSPER) teams in partnership with Lackawanna Heritage Valley will host the Kristy Ryczak Memorial 5K Run/Fun Walk at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Olive Street Trailhead on the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail, Scranton. The event is in memory of Kristy Ryczak, former Carbondale PROSPER team member and PROSPER 5K committee member. Proceeds from the event will be used for PROSPER evidence-based drug and alcohol prevention programs in the Carbondale Area and Riverside School Districts. The cost to participate is $25. For children 16 years and under, the fee is $15. Awards will be presented. Registration is available online at runsignup.com/prosper5ksignup. Leadership Lackawanna fundraiser

Leadership Lackawanna will host Howl at the Moon Dueling Pianos fundraiser, Friday, Oct. 4, at the Wildcat Saloon, 247 Wildcat Road, Olyphant. The fundraiser will start at 7 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are $20 and available at leadershiplackawanna.com or $25 at the door, and all tickets include a complimentary drink. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase.

Great Pennsylvania clean up

The Eynon-Archbald Lions Club will be collecting trash along its two-mile “Adopt-a-Highway” route on Saturday, Oct. 5. Club members, Leo’s Club, Cub Scouts and interested residents are asked to gather at the Archbald Borough building to pick up needed supplies at 8:45 am. Car show

All-you-can-eat breakfast

Throop Hose Co. No. 1, 512 Center St., Throop, will host its annual all-you-can-eat egg, pancake and sausage breakfast Sunday, Oct. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 per adult and $3 for children 10 and under. Turkey dinner

St. John Vianney Parish of Montdale and Royal will host its annual Harvest Festival turkey dinner on Sunday, Oct. 6 from noon to 5 p.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 704 Montdale Road, in Montdale. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children. Tickets may be purchased at the door and include a turkey dinner. Take-outs are available. The Harvest Festival will also feature a 50/50 cash raffle, free hay ride (weather permitting), as well as several booths with chances to win wreaths and wall hangings or gift certificates for various local restaurants. As always, the bountiful baskets and homemade baked goods stands will be available as well.

Fall fundraiser trip

Visitation of the BVM Church will host a bus trip Wednesday, Oct. 9, to Woodloch Pines for dinner and a show. Cost of $70 per person includes bus, family-style dinner, show and tip. Local author book talk

Irandukht “Iran” Fahmy will be at Valley Community Library, 739 River St., Peckville, at 6 p.m. on Oct. 10 to discuss her book, “A Checkerboard of Nights and Days: A Memoir of My Cultural Journey.” Fahmy will discuss her experiences moving to America from the country of Iran in the late 1950s.

Caturday

Valley Community Library’s, 739 River St., Peckville, Caturday, a fun, kitty-themed story time will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12. Afterwards, from 2-4 p.m. Friends with Paws Pet Rescue will be at the Valley Community Library with cats that are available for adoption. Attendees can also make a DIY cat wand to take home for their own pet, or to donate to the shelter.

No registration is required for this free, all-ages event.

Designer purse bingo

The Queen City Hose Co. No. 8 will host designer purse bingo Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Scott Township Fire Hall in Montdale. Find “Queen City Engine 26 Designer Bag Bingo” Facebook page for more information. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo starts at 6 p.m. Tickets include 16 games and door prize entry and are $20 pre-sale and $25 at the door. There will be four additional special purse games, a 50/50 cash and purse game.

Food will be available and there will be a basket raffle. There will be a free bus from Olyphant to the bingo and back. Seating will be offered on a paid ticket, first-come basis. Church dinner

Clifford United Methodist Church, Main Street, Clifford, will host a chicken-n-biscuit or ham dinner, Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 4-6 p.m. Take out or eat in. Donation is $9.95, which includes dinner, drink and dessert.

Reunion planning

Graduates of Mid Valley High School, Class of 1971 will meet Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. at Happy Valley Sports Bar, 516 Storrs St., Dickson City, to plan its 50-year reunion. All classmates are encouraged to attend.

The 13th annual Michele Wilcha-Zini Ladies in Pink Party will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 2-5 p.m. at Fiorelli Catering, 1501 Main St., Peckville. This year, guests for this ladies-only event are asked to wear their favorite pink sports attire. There will be a competition for MVP (Most Valuable Pink) Lady with prizes awarded to the winners. There will be raffles, gift baskets, a silent auction, vendors, entertainment, dancing and a cash bar. Tickets are $40 and must be purchased in advance.

Proceeds benefit local women with breast cancer, families battling cancer and are used to finance two scholarships for Valley View High School graduating seniors. If you know a local woman who is currently under treatment for breast cancer and would like to nominate her as a recipient, you can email a brief history of her situation to: wendem@comcast.net. Fall book sale

The Valley Community Library’s Annual Fall Book Sale will take place Oct. 23-24 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will be hundreds of books and other items available for purchase and it will take place in the Gino Merli Room at the library.

Pigs in the blanket dinner

Eureka Hose Co. No. 4, Olyphant, will sponsor a pigs-in-the-blanket dinner on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the fire station, 717 E.Grant St. Serving 3-7 p.m. Proceeds benefit the volunteer organization. Tickets will be available for $10 from members. Mayor John J.Sedlak,Jr., company treasurer 570-383-1406, is in charge of the dinner.
