Valley Community Library, 739 River St. in Peckville, reminds residents that there is still time to dispose of your old car, truck or camper that is taking up space in your garage or sitting in your backyard. You can donate it to the library to help raise money for the Cars for Books Fund.

Your donation is tax deductible for the amount received when it is sold at auction. All proceeds go directly to the library.

New car donations tax laws: a deduction can be claimed in the year a vehicle is donated. The taxpayer will be able to deduct only the amount of gross proceeds the organization got from the sale of donated vehicle.

To arrange for your donation or for more information, call 570-489-1765.

This is an ongoing program started in 2004. The Ron Lupini “Cars for Books” fund was created in honor of Genevieve Lupini’s late husband, Ron Lupini, former Tax Collector of Jessup for 29 years and a regular contributor to the library.

“Ron and I always discussed this kind of program as a fundraiser for the Library,” Lupini said. “My husband was always involved with antique cars and it seemed like a perfect fit.”

Lupini, the fund’s chairwoman, has teamed up with Swade Auto Auction, to organize this fundraiser in support of the library’s building expenses. Vehicles donated will be sold at Swade Auto Auction and all proceeds will benefit the Valley Community Library building fund.

To date, Cars for Books has brought in 17 cars from the surrounding communities.
