The Chamber Gallery, in the Greater Carbondale Chamber of Commerce Building, 27 N. Main St. in Carbondale, has yet another artistic exploration to offer area art lovers.

This time it’s a solo exhibition, a photographic collection by the local professional photographer Kris Coolican titled “Eclectic Feelings,” which gallery officials say will focus primarily on Coolican’s fine art photography, featuring shifts of light, focus, texture and complexity in addition to minimalism.

The opening reception will be Saturday, May 12, 7 to 9 p.m. in the Chamber Gallery, with entertainment provided by song stylist Sandra Anderson. Refreshments will be served and the event is free and open to the public.

“One of The Chamber Gallery‘s major goals is to showcase the many fine artists who live and work in Carbondale,” explained Ruthanne Jones, director of The Chamber Gallery. “Kris is an inspiring woman, mother, wife and photographer, And a consumate artist with a great gift. It is an honor to share Kris’s beautiful and unique work with the people of Carbondale. We are all very proud of Kris Coolican.”

She is a graduate of Penn State and made her career in education until a 2016 car accident prevented Coolican from continuing her work as a classroom teacher.

After taking a much-needed break to work on her recovery, Coolican rediscovered a passion she has held since her teenage years. She once again picked up a camera and spent countless hours capturing and editing thousands of images in order to hone her craft. And now she is the proprietor of Kristina Nickolina Photography, offering portrait and commercial services.

“Photography sparked a flame inside me that still burns to this day,” Coolican said. “The burning for the perfect shot. The striving for the perfect composition. I believe that I have yet to take my best image, and it is this desire that fuels my ambition for perfection in every frame I shoot,” she added,

The Chamber Gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Special viewings on the weekends can be made in advance by calling The Greater Carbondale Chamber of Commerce 570-282-1690 to set up day, time and reservation.
