Recently, Carbondale Area High School hosted a benefit basketball game featuring the faculty versus the Chargers’ varsity basketball team. This event, organized by Michelle Rosler and athletic director Erik Larson, was planned to help with medical expenses incurred by Laura Mauro, wife of faculty member Thomas Mauro, who was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
Baskets were raffled, t-shirts were sold, donated goods were provided at concession, dollar mid-court shots were taken, and a packed gymnasium cheered on the faculty as they attempted to beat the varsity basketball team.
The committee is shown presenting the check to Mr. and Mrs. Mauro. A total of $5,856 was raised to help defray the costs of Mrs. Mauro’s treatments.
