Carbondale Area again fared well at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) competition. Thirty-four students received awards at the PJAS regional meeting at Wilkes’s College. The 22 first-place winners will compete at the state level. The first-place winners are Mia Perri, Sarah Parry, Alyssa Cosklo (she had a perfect score), Deana Mancuso, Taylor Mazza, Olivia Manarchuck, Jarred Rosar, Cora Heenan, Emma Jones, Mckinley Borders, Rory Misko, Megan Wallis, Astrid Paz, Vanessa Sawyer, Kristina Gorel, Chelsie Jones, Emily Wall, Emily Wallis, Dylan Rowland, Kianna Savage, Katelyn Dovin and Michaela McLaughlin.

The second-place competitors were Olivia Regal, Christina Carachilo, Amelia Zazzera, Maura Nevins, Gianna Arnese, Emily Kelly, Noah Newcomb, Jessica Borders, Julia Kelly and Madison Cost.

In addition: Maura Nevins, Emily Wallis and Chelsie Jones all received a

five-year perseverance award and Chelsie Jones received a $2,500 scholarship to Wilkes University.
